A NATURAL FINISH. YOUR FINAL SAY.

A practical workflow from your first photo to a full-size result.

Subject-aware background blur

Automatic focus separates the foreground. Our normalized blur reduces foreground color bleeding into the background.

Keep sharp. Blur precisely.

Correct a missed selection with two brushes, adjustable brush size, undo, redo and a sharp-area overlay.

Four looks. Fine control.

Choose Soft, Natural, Portrait or Dreamy. Adjust strength continuously, including zero to compare the unchanged image.

Your original stays intact

The blur changes color, not the picture’s shape or alpha. PNG and WebP preserve transparency; export keeps source dimensions.

Review before downloading

Use the before-and-after slider, zoom up to 300% and inspect fine details in a compact workspace.

Made for your next photo

Upload, drop, paste, use your camera or open a CORS-enabled image URL. Save PNG, JPG or WebP.

Automatic selection can need brush correction around fine hair, glass, low-contrast edges or multiple subjects. The first AI download and very large images take longer. Actual capacity depends on your browser and device memory. This tool follows the site’s shared trial and access rules.

Blur Background Image: questions & answers

Useful answers. Clear next steps.

At a glance

Blur a photo background while keeping selected subject pixels sharp. Upload, drop, paste or capture one JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF first frame or browser-supported AVIF image, or open a public image URL that permits CORS. Local automatic focus uses ISNet; optional Detail mode combines ISNet and BiRefNet. Lighter mode first downloads about 100 MB and Detail mode about 300 MB. A manual selection needs no AI model download: the image starts sharp, then you paint the areas to blur. Choose Soft, Natural, Portrait or Dreamy, set blur strength from 0 to 40 and review before/after with a slider or zoom. Keep sharp and Blur area brushes have adjustable size, undo and redo. Edge expansion, softness and subject-interior protection refine the mask. Our normalized background convolution excludes foreground colors to reduce color bleeding. An optimized working-size background is blended with original-resolution subject pixels. Blur does not cut out objects or change source alpha. PNG and supported WebP retain transparency; JPG flattens transparent areas to white. Export keeps the original dimensions with no watermark; source EXIF is omitted and animation becomes a still frame. One image and up to 350 MB per input or output; no fixed pixel or megapixel upload cap, but browser memory and codec limits apply. Complex subjects may need brush correction. Shared site trial and access rules apply.

How do I blur the background of a photo?

Upload a photo with automatic focus enabled. The subject is selected locally, then the background is softened. Choose a preset or adjust blur strength, review Before / after and select Prepare full-size download. Refine the sharp area with brushes if the automatic selection needs correction.

Can I keep people and objects sharp without removing them?

Yes. The blur mixes background colors while retaining original pixels inside the selected sharp area. It does not erase objects or change the source alpha. Automatic selection can be wrong around hair, glass, multiple people or low-contrast edges; use Keep sharp to correct it.

Can I blur selected areas without downloading an AI model?

Turn off Automatically keep the subject sharp before upload, or choose Start a manual selection under Subject selection. The entire image starts sharp. Paint with Blur area to soften only the areas you choose. Keep sharp reverses a selection; undo, redo and reset are available.

Are my photos uploaded and how long does processing take?

Photos, selections and results are processed on this device. Automatic focus downloads model/runtime files: about 100 MB in Lighter mode or about 300 MB in Detail mode on first use. Manual brush selection avoids model downloads. Speed depends on device, file size and browser; progress and cancellation are available. An image URL is fetched directly by your browser and requires the host to allow CORS.

Will downloads keep my original resolution and transparency?

Exports keep the source width and height. The background blur is calculated on an optimized working copy, then blended into the full-resolution original. Fully selected foreground pixels stay unchanged in lossless PNG, and source alpha is preserved. WebP is lossy and supports transparency where available; JPG is lossy and fills transparent areas with white. EXIF is omitted and animation becomes a still frame.

Which image formats and upload limits are supported?

Use JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF first frame or browser-supported AVIF. SVG and HEIC are not supported here. One photo is edited at a time, with a 350 MB input and output budget. There is no fixed pixel or megapixel upload cap; device memory, canvas and codec limits still apply. Choose New photo to start another image.

Can I compare results and correct the selected subject?

Yes. Use the before-and-after slider, zoom up to 300%, show the area kept sharp, or paint with Keep sharp and Blur area. Undo and redo support up to 500 strokes. Edge expansion and softness refine the working mask. Changing the AI mode only affects the selection after Find subject again is pressed; brush edits are kept.

What happens when I cancel processing?

Cancel terminates processing and retains the original photo and any completed selection in the current workspace. Retry automatic focus or choose the manual brush. New photo or closing the page clears temporary work, so download a completed result before leaving.
